Amurao, nakatakdang maghain ng apela matapos mahatulang guilty ng Sandiganbayan

Inanunsiyo kamakailan ni City Tourism Officer Aileen Cynthia Amurao na mag-aapela siya sa hatol na iginawad sa kanya ng Sandiganbayan 6th Division.

Matatandaang sa inilabas na 65-pahinang desisyon ng Sandiganbayan noong Nobyembre 20, pinatawan si Amurao at ang Operations Assistant na si Michael Angelo Lucero Jr. ng parusang dalawang taon at isang araw na pagkakakulong, multang P5,000, at panghabambuhay na diskwalipikasyon na maitalaga, maihalal o humawak ng posisyon sa gobyerno dahil sa paglabag sa Section 7, Paragraph D ng RA 6713 o ang “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.”

Sa ikalawang yugto ng Tourism Promotional Caravan kahapon sa Astoria Palawan, tinuran ni Amurao na malinis ang kanyang konsensya at kanyang hihilingin na mabaligtad ang desisyon sa pamamagitan ng paghahain ng apela sa inilabas na desisyon.

Maaaring maghain ng apela sa desisyon ng 6th Division ng Sandiganbayan si Amurao mismo sa Anti-graft Court o kaya ay maaari ring iakyat na niya ang kaso sa Court of Appeals.

Iginiit ni Amurao na ni isang sentimo mula sa mga na-solicit ay walang napunta sa kanyang bulsa. Sa katunayan pa nga umano ay gumagastos pa siya ng sarili niyang pera sa mga aktibidad ng City Tourism Office.

Ang kaso ay nag-ugat sa ginawang pag-solicit ng pera at iba pang pabor mula sa mga pribadong tao at mga establisyemento noong Pebrero hanggang Abril 2014 para sa tourism activities ng pamahalaang panlungsod, partikular ang “Pangalipay sa Baybay.” Inihain naman ang reklamo laban kina Amurao nina Doris Suelo, Sheryl Lynn Lebante, at Engilbert Alvarez na mga empleyado rin ng City Tourism Office.

Samantala, ang dalawang namang co-accused nina Amurao at Aquino na sina Operations Assistant Joyce Cabanag Enriquez at Tourism Officer I Michie Hitosis Meneses ay nahatulan ng “not guilty” ng Sandiganbayan.
