The city government of Puerto Princesa reported that it fast tracked its ongoing flood control project in San Manuel, considered as one of the city’s major flood mitigation infrastructure.
The City Engineering Department has reported that as of January 2026, the ongoing Flood Control Project at Barangay San Manuel catchment area is at 35.62 percent. This project has started during the third quarter of 2025.
“The project is steadily moving forward, with continuous efforts to mitigate flooding and enhance the drainage system within the San Manuel Catchment Area. This initiative aims to provide improved safety and protection for nearby residents and properties, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
“Recently accomplished activities include: construction of slope protection, dismantling of forms, installation of rebars and concrete pouring for the bottom slab of the box culvert and lined canal,” the City Engineering said in a statement.
“Kapag natapos, inaasahan nating makakatulong ito para mabawasan ang pagbaha sa paligid ng San Manuel Barangay Hall,” the city government said.
Last December 2025, Mayor Lucilo Bayron led the groundbreaking of another project in San Manuel. This time, it is the Construction of Flood Control and Drainage (Matahimik to Purok Buhanginan) Brgy. San Manuel for which the city government has allocated ₱79,767,815.26.
In a report that it released recently, the City Engineering Department headed by Engr. Aries Grande, said that “flood prevention remained the priority, in which they completed a total of 19 canal repair projects in 2025 in order to improve water flow. It resulted in some 11,464.13 cubic meter flood dewatering.”
