The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) of Puerto Princesa announced that it initiated the crafting of the contingency plan for potential fire incidents and related hazards in the city Sanitary Landfill (SLF) in Sta. Lourdes.
The activity was conducted in coordination with partner agencies and offices including that from the national agencies such as the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and other uniformed personnel. Also present were representatives from the City Solid Waste Management Program under the Office of the Mayor, City Planning and Development Office, City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO), among others.
The CDRRMO headed by CDRRM Officer Earl H. Timbancaya said that it convened an initial action planning meeting recently, at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Conference Room, 2nd Floor, Old City Hall, Puerto Princesa City.
The CDRRMO explained that the meeting focused on the development of a contingency plan for the City Sanitary Landfill in Barangay Sta. Lourdes, particularly in preparation for potential fire incidents and related hazards.
“The activity brought together concerned stakeholders to collaboratively discuss hazard scenarios, preparedness measures, response protocols, resource requirements, communication and early warning procedures, and inter-agency coordination mechanisms to ensure an effective, timely, and coordinated response in the event of a fire incident within the facility,” the CDRRMO said in a statement.
The CDRRMO further explained that through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) chaired by the City Mayor Lucilo Bayron already crafted contingency plans in connection with other hazards such as floods, storm surge, typhoon, landslide, fire, etc. The office emphasized the significance of crafting a separate contingency planning for the SLF which is the city’s final disposal facility.
It further said that the planning session also served as an initial step toward strengthening risk mitigation strategies, clarifying agency roles and responsibilities, and identifying operational gaps and priority actions for the formulation of a comprehensive contingency plan aimed at protecting lives, property, and the environment.
