The Department of Health (DOH) officially recognized in a memorandum released on November 14 the Puerto Princesa City Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory as a standout example in the Presentation of Best Practices, particularly in the Service Delivery category across the entire MIMAROPA region.
The commendation comes as a result of a meticulous selection process by the Award Selection Committee, acknowledging the city’s molecular laboratory and its dedicated staff for their exceptional services during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With a total investment of P26 million from the City Government of Puerto Princesa, the Molecular Lab stands as a testament to the effective initiatives undertaken by the “Mega Apuradong Administrasyon,” addressing the urgent medical needs of the city’s residents during the pandemic.
The molecular laboratory was City Mayor Lucilo Bayron’s response to the urgent request from City Health Officer Dr. Ricardo Panganiban during the height of the pandemic.
The mayor’s foresight recognized the crucial role the laboratory would play in conducting rapid COVID-19 tests, facilitating confirmatory testing, and delivering prompt results, ensuring timely medical attention for patients displaying COVID symptoms.
Beyond the accolade in the Presentation of Best Practices, the Molecular Lab is also set to receive a special award for its exceptional adherence to the Quality Assurance Program across South Luzon, representing the laboratory’s strict compliance with the prescribed quality standards set by the Department of Health for licensing laboratories to operate.
The formal recognition ceremony for this remarkable achievement is scheduled for December 1, 2023.
