Ang sobrang pagdidisiplina ay maaaring magdulot ng negatibong epekto sa mga bata ayon kay Lorizza Mae Posadas-Gacott isang Registered Guidance Councilor.

“Kapagka-excessive or irrational discipline, most likely ang magiging effect nun sa isang bata or sa isang teenager ay negative emotion. Magkakaroon ng galit, magkakaroon ng question yung bata or yung teenager na bakit ganun? Bakit ako pinagsabihan ng masama? Eh tama naman ang ginawa ko,” ani Posadas-Gacott.

Ayon pa rito, ang pagdidisiplina ay isang uri ng parusa sa mga bata at hiling nito sa mga magulang na maging rasyonal sa pagpaparusa sa kanilang mga anak.

“Ang discipline kasi, basically this is the use of punishment to correct the behaviour. So bago tayo magbigay ng disiplina, kung meron na talagang nangyaring hindi maganda. Halimbawa naman teenager na may isip na, you give them the option na rin na pagginawa mo ‘to, ito [ang] mangyayari. Pagginawa mo pa rin ibig sabihin choice niya na ‘yun kasi alam niya na kung anong mangyayari . May kinalaman ‘yun sa parenting style. Marami kasing uri ng parenting style yung pagdedesiplina natin,” pahayag nito.

Iminumungkahi naman niya ang dalawang istilo o paraan sa pagdidisiplina na base sa pag-aaral ay epektibo.

“Ang sabi sa studies nakakaraise ng well-adaptive na mga bata [ay] ang authoritative atsaka democratic parenting style. Yung authoritative kasi binibigyan mo ng chance rin mag-decide ang bata para sa sarili niya and then yung democratic parang two-way siya eh hindi lang ikaw ang laging nasusunod, yung anak mo mayroon din siyang opportunity na mag-state ng gusto niya sa family ninyo [at] gusto niya para sa sarili niya. Negative naman ang nagiging impact ng autocratic parenting style. Yung autocratic naman, ito yung kumbaga dahil magulang ako sundin mo ko kahit anong mangyari ako lang ang tama,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Una nang ipinaalala ng Hepe ng Puerto Princesa Anti-Crime Task Force sa mga magulang na disiplinahin ang kanilang mga anak sa tahanan upang maiwasan ang pagkasangkot ng mga menor de edad sa mga kriminal na aktibidad. Ito ay matapos masangkot ang dalawang menor de edad sa pagpatay sa isa pang menor de edad sa Puerto Princesa City Baywalk noong ikalawang araw ng Enero.
