The latest rapper to hit the music scene in Palawan is Koykoy Heredero with a screen name Lil Koy Palawan, a certified Batang Manalo in Puerto Princesa upload his latest music songs online last September after creating vlogs of his daily life, he claim this is his latest passion brought by the pandemic as an alternative source of income.
With no background in creating songs or music video, Lil Koy receives both negative and positive feedback on his singing, but he is not alarm and actually were inspired to do more in the future because his decision in going to rap underground really change him as a person.
“Dati kumbaga trip trip lang, wala po talaga sa isipan ko na pumasok sa rap industry, parang dati sulat sulat lang po freestyle freestyle lang po, sa mga kanto kanto sa amin sa Manila, tapos yung palagay ko na maging okay na nangyari na po tong lockdown, sinubukan ko po na pumasok sa rap industry,” Heredero said.
His debut song “Resulta” can be viewed in his Lil_Koy Palawan account in youtube, he claim that his music is not intended for mainstream and can be appreciated by some, but it’s the message that he want to resonates especially to the young crowd.
“Limitado lang ang makakaintindi sa kung ano yung nilalabas ng kanta ko, ang target ko kasi dito mga kabataan para malaman nila yung pagbabago na hindi kailangan maging bayolente, ang pagiging gangster ay hindi yung nakikita nyo dito sa Palawan na kesyo basag ulo, ang pagiging gangster ay kung paano mo aayusin yung pamilya mo sa hirap, kung paano mo palalakihin ang business,” Heredero added.
Before venturing in being a content creator and rapper, Lil Koy used to manage his personal clothing line called “Low Key” with some partners, but pandemic strike them and lead him to vlogging and later on pursue his dream of creating music, his inspiration is another Youtuber known as Bugoy na Koykoy.
Heredero didn’t deny his dark past, this is where he wants to tell the world on how rapping change his life and to inspire others that there is always a chance to change, the important is you correct it and you make it better.
“Four times ako nag first year high school, palipat lipat ng school puro drop out, kick out, kumbaga pinag igihan ko na lang din kasi nagsawa na yung magulang ko sa akin. Hindi ko na itatago para alam ng lahat, na-rehab po ako sa Maynila, nalulong sa mga ipinagbabawal pero inaral ko yung rap, kumabaga etu na po yung chance ko para i-ano ko yung break ko,” Heredero shared.
At present, Lil Koy is working for his upcoming track in titled “Tamang Landas” and a song collaboration with another rap artist from Makati City. He wish to do more songs and collab with Palawan artist like Geo Ong.
“Si Lil Koy siya po yung sinasagad yung oras para makaahon sa kahirapan, siyempre ayaw ko mag stay yung anu ako, siyempre kumbaga tumayo ako sa sariling paa ko kailangan kong sipagan ng sipagan, ayaw kong habang buhay magtra-trabaho sa isang company or business para payamanin mismo yung may ari, kung puede naman ako yung boss sa sarili kong negosyo,” Lil Koy said in closing.
