A man tragically lost his life after falling into a deep well in Barangay Concepcion, Puerto Princesa City on Monday, March 18.
According to local authorities, the victim, Onofre G. Madayag Sr., 66, died while attempting to clean the well.
A medical report indicated that Madayag wanted to bathe but found the well water smelly so he decided to clean it. Unfortunately, the well was covered with plywood, and there wasn’t enough air inside. When the victim went in, he couldn’t breathe and later suffocated.
A construction worker tried to rescue him but had to retreat quickly because of the lack of air. Despite the incident occurring around 7:30 AM, it was reported to authorities at 8:30 AM.
Rescuers from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Puerto Princesa rushed upon discovery of the incident, but unfortunately, they were unable to save the individual.
The victim’s body was recovered around 10:20AM with the attending physician declaring him dead at 10:40 AM.
