To ensure clean and safe drinking water for the province, Governor V Dennis Socrates has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Puerto Princesa City Water District (PPCWD) on June 26, which aims to establish the PPCWD as an accredited Environmental Sanitation and Public Health Laboratory for Drinking Water Analysis (DWA) under the Provincial Health Office, accredited by the Department of Health (DOH).
The signing ceremony, held at the Governor’s Conference Room of the Provincial Capitol, was attended by PPCWD General Manager Walter Laurel, Dr. Justyne Barbosa, Medical Specialist II of the Provincial Health Office and Mohamad Mangotara, Senior Water Utilities Development Officer.
Socrates emphasized the importance of reliable and accurate testing of drinking water to safeguard public health.
Under the terms of the MOA, the PPCWD, which is now under a rigorous evaluation process conducted by the DOH, will need to comply with established standards and protocols for conducting DWA.
Once accredited, the PPCWD will serve as a referring laboratory, responsible for analyzing water samples from various sources in the province and providing comprehensive reports on their quality.
The establishment of an accredited laboratory within the PPCWD will streamline the process of water analysis, reducing reliance on external facilities and facilitating prompt responses to potential water quality issues. It will enhance the province’s ability to monitor and address any concerns related to drinking water, thereby ensuring the well-being and safety of the residents.
The partnership would significantly contribute to Palawan’s overall efforts to enhance water quality management and protect the health of its citizens, while at the same time showcasing the shared dedication of Palawan Government and PPCWD in promoting public health and environmental sustainability.
By empowering the PPCWD as an accredited laboratory, the partnership sets a precedent for other water districts and local governments to prioritize the crucial aspect of drinking water analysis and take proactive measures in ensuring safe water for all.
