The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) deputized 65 Wildlife Enforcement Officers (WEOs) during its 312th Regular Meeting on May 29.

The oathtaking ceremony was officiated by Hon. Victorino Dennis M. Socrates, Palawan Governor and PCSD Chair.

The newly-deputized officers come from a variety of government agencies, including City Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) divisions such as Bantay Bakawan, Bantay Dagat, Bantay Gubat, and Bantay Pawikan.

Officers from the City ENRO Environmental Management Division, Flora, and Wildlife Management Division, LGU El Nido, and PCSDS were also among those sworn in.

This initiative is crucial for Palawan, known as the “last frontier” of the Philippines, due to its rich and diverse ecosystems, which include endangered species and critical habitats.

Strengthening the enforcement of environmental laws and the protection of Palawan’s biodiversity is essential to addressing the pressing challenges of poaching, illegal logging, and habitat destruction.

The new WEOs will play an important role in ensuring the preservation of Palawan’s unique natural heritage for future generations.
