Senior Citizens, maaaring lumabas ng kanilang tahanan para bumoto sa darating na Plebisito

Dahil sa ipinatutupad na health and safety protocols kaugnay ng pandemya ng COVID-19, hindi pinapayagan na lumabas ang mga senior citizen. Ayon kasi sa World Health Organization, mas delikado ang sakit sa mga matatanda.

“In many countries, older people are facing the most threats and challenges at this time. Although all age groups are at risk of contracting COVID-19, older people face significant risk of developing severe illness if they contract the disease due to physiological changes that come with ageing and potential underlying health conditions.”

Pero para sa parating na plebisito kaugnay ng paghahati ng Palawan sa tatlong probinsiya, nilinaw ng COMELEC na pwedeng lumabas at bumoto ang mga senior citizen.

Ayon kay Sheila May Guno, Election Officer II OEO Araceli Palawan, mayroong dalawang pagpipilian ang mga senior citizen para bumoto sa Marso 13, 2021.

“Yung atin pong mga senior citizen ay may dalawang options sa pagboto para maging safe sila. Ang una po, meron kasi tayong tinatawag na accessible polling place [na] kung saan ang kanilang polling place ay nilalagay malapit po sa entrance ng voting center. Ang pangalawa naman po ay may express lane sila sa mga regular na presinto.”

Ihihiwalay din ng COMELEC ang mga ito sa matataong lugar bilang hakbang upang masiguro ang kaligtasan ng mga botante mula sa COVID-19.

“Yung accessible polling place naman ng mga senior citizens ay malapit lang sa ating entrance ng voting center so hindi na po sila doon mahahalo sa mas maraming tao doon sa loob mismo sa regular na presinto. So we can ensure na safe po bumoto yung ating mga senior citizen.”

Dagdag pa ni Election Officer Guno ay kasama ang pagpapahintulot sa mga senior citizens na lumabas ng kanilang bahay para bumoto sa resolusyon ng COMELEC para sa Palawan Plebiscite.

“Siyempre po sa ating guidelines ng IATF, sa ngayon ay bawal pa silang [lumabas] pero mayroon pong isinama sa ating [COMELEC] Resolution 10687 – na sa araw ng March 13, 2021 sila po ay pinapayagan nang lumabas.”

Ayon sa isang residente ng Roxas, hindi ito sumasang-ayon na pahintulutan lumabas ang mga senior citizen para bumoto dahil minsan umano ay hindi nasusunod ang ipinapatupad na health and safety protocols.“

Hindi ako sang-ayon. Hindi mo rin kasi masasabi pagnandiyan na sa presinto. Magchi-chismisan kaya yan diyan. ‘Diba maga-kwentuhan yung mga [matatanda at] sasabihin niyan ‘anong binoto mo?’ Dapat kung ano yung pagdating doon sa area yung health and safety protocol na sinasabi [ay] kailangan bantayan talaga. [Pero] ano ba ang guarantee na hindi mahahawaan ng COVID-19 [na sakit] yung senior citizens?”
