The San Vicente Local Government Unit (LGU) continues to vaccinate priority individuals to provide them with protection against COVID-19.

Municipal Health Officer (MHO) Dra. Mercy Grace S. Pablico reported at the San Vicente Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) meeting on Tuesday, August 17,a total of 10, 750 individuals have been vaccinated throughout the municipality. Of that number, 4, 675 were fully inoculated and 6, 075 received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

According to Dra. Pablico, vaccinations continue in the barangays for those on A1, A2, A3, and A5 priority groups. They have also vaccinated selected workers under the A4 category.

“May iilang nasa A4 priority [na rin tayong nabakunahan] like mga tourism-related establishment personnel at saka uniformed personnel, kasi ‘yun pa lang ang mga may guidelines galing sa national,” Pablico explains.

She added that those who belong to the priority groups can line up at the designated vaccination centers in case there is an announcement of vaccination in their area. They only need to bring an identification card.

“Mayroon tayong masterlisting. Antayin lang nila ang announcement kung kailan ang turn nila. Manggagaling sa national ‘yung order kung anong priority group na ang ating bibigyan ng bakuna,” she said.

San Vicente has 21,167 residents eligible for vaccination. 70% of the total population of the municipality needs to be vaccinated to fully achieve herd immunity.

“Ang aim talaga natin ay before the end of October ay makamit na natin ang herd immunity na target natin kasi mahirap nang mapasukan tayo ng Delta [variant],” Health Officer stressed.

Although there is a shortage of supply, the LGU of San Vicente continues to work to obtain additional vaccines to inoculate the remaining eligible individuals in the island sitios and barangays.

Recently, Mayor Amy Alvarez submitted to the Sangguniang Bayan Supplemental Budget No. 6, Series of 2021 which contains funds for the purchase of vaccines and other programs for the COVID-19 response.
