Some 70 Person with disabilities (PWD) in Puerto Princesa City benefited from the 15-day training and work engagement, a program of the Department of Labor and Employment in coordination with the City Public Employment Service Office (PESO), the city government announced recently.
PWDs were trained on message, wellness which they will receive P455 per day while they are undergoing the skills training. The DOLE and the City PESO conducted an orientation on February 5, 2026 in Purok Liwanag, Barangay San Jose, this city. The training has started on Monday, February 9, 2026.
“Kabilang sa mga kalahok ang mga totally blind, visually impaired, Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) at mga guardian ng mga may kapansanan. Bahagi ng interbensyon ng City PESO ang skills training sa paghihilot, wellness, at massage services, na may kaakibat na ₱455.00 na sahod kada araw, bilang pansamantalang kita habang hinahasa ang kakayahang maaaring gawing pangmatagalang hanapbuhay,” Enrique Obligar of the City Information Office of Puerto Princesa said.
The City PESO headed by PESO Manager Demetrio Lopez Jr that programs similar to this is important as it provides immediate needs to these PWDs but also provide them the opportunities that will give them income.
“Layunin nitong patunayan na hindi hadlang ang kapansanan upang maging produktibo, magkaroon ng sariling kita, at makapag-ambag sa komunidad,” the city government through the CIO said.
Throughout the training, the City PESO staff are monitoring the training and work of the PWDs who are undergoing this program.
“Binibigyang-diin ng City PESO ang kahalagahan ng disiplina, tamang trabaho, at pagpapahalaga sa sahod. Mahigpit na mino-monitor ng mga PESO staff ang mga gawain ng mga benepisyaryo upang matiyak na maayos at tama ang pagsasagawa ng mga aktibidad, isang mahalagang bahagi ng paghubog ng work ethics at responsableng paggamit ng kinikita. Sa mga naunang implementasyon ng TUPAD, kabilang sa mga gawaing isinagawa ang community cleaning sa kani-kanilang barangay, na nagsisilbing konkretong ambag ng mga benepisyaryo sa kaayusan at kalinisan ng pamayanan,” the CIO further said.
Engaging PWD is crucial for fostering an inclusive society, boosting their productivity, and ensuring equality. It enhances innovation, diversity, and morale, while providing them with increased self-confidence, opportunities to earn money, and improved community integration.
