Barely a month after the launching of “Save Puerto Princesa Bay Project”, the City Government of Puerto Princesa has set activities on August 12 in Barangay Bagong Silang popularly known as Quito, a coastal communities within the bay, in an effort to sustain its campaign to save the coastal areas from pollution.

Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron has launched the project on July 15, in Old Buncag, Barangay Mandaragat and was followed by several activities aimed to protect, conserve and clean the bay and its environs, such as EM mudball throwing, mangrove planting, scoop basura, and coastal clean-up.

He said that the city government intend to form a team of speakers’ bureau who will be dispatch to conduct full-blast information campaign to all sectors, including youth and students.

The mayor emphasized the importance of Puerto Princesa Bay to the city’s economy and environment. The city is dependent on tourism industry therefore an effort to maintain the coastal waters and bays cleanliness and water quality should be given a paramount consideration.

During the launching, different agencies and organizations, both from the government and private sector, showed their support to the project. This coming August 12, various groups and sectors are also expected to actively participate.

He urged the city residents to join them in the campaign of saving Puerto Bay. He explained that this is the perfect time to do it and act on it collectively.

“Ito talaga ay kailangan nating gampanan. Mag bigkis tayo. Magkaisa tayo na its time na, panahon na upang sagipin ang mga bays natin,” Mayor Bayron appealed.

He warned that doing it in the future might be too late, “Huwag na nating antayin na umabot pa tayo sa ponto na hindi na natin kayang salbarin ang bay, ngayon palang ay kumilos na tayo dahil mayron pang panahon na iligtas natin sila mula sa polusyon,” he adds.

The several offices of the City Government in cooperation with the urban barangays concerned, government agencies, private sector, and stakeholders are now preparing for the activity.
