Subaraw Festival – the annual biodiversity celebration honoring Puerto Princesa Underground River gears up in the new normal as its celebration migrates to online this coming November 2-11, 2020.
Different activities and events are already scheduled including video making contest thru Tiktok and online gaming Mobile Legends. This year’s festivity goes up with the theme “Balik Tanaw” that will be livestreamed with uploaded videos of highlighted events and competition of Subaraw from 2018 and 2019.
Subaraw Festival Event Head Carlo Abogado of City Administrator office clarifies that the City Government is not spending any amount in this year’s festival, most of the event are sponsored and funded by private sectors.
“So iniiwasan pa rin ‘yung mga gatherings na more than 10, kasi ‘pag ganyan makaka-attract pa rin ng tao kaya kinonsider namin na mapapanood lang siya sa cellphone, desktop o sa laptop na lang sa kanilang mga bahay. Walang budget na nilaan ang presentor talaga is Smart and Globe sila ‘yung nagbayad doon sa digital team na gumawa,” Abogado said.
The only event this time that will have an audience is the thanksgiving mass scheduled on Nov 11 at 6:00 in the morning, but according to Abogado they don’t require people to attend since the holy mass to be held in Immaculate Conception Cathedral will be live streamed at the same time.
For the opening ceremony, only video messages from different partner organizations that are members of the Subaraw Foundation and officials from selected National Government offices will be played online to formally open the festival on Nov 2.
