Rain did not stop protesters and activists from expressing their opposition to the 15-megawatt Coal Fired Power Plant and the division of Palawan division from holding a prayer rally in the grounds of St. Joseph Parish Church in Narra on Saturday, September 12.

In a bid to stop these projects, leaders of both resistance groups called on for an interfaith rally which was attended by no more than 100 protesters and allies.

Speakers from churches and other sectors were heard and the attendees lighted a candle while praying for the cancellation of both measures.

Cynthia Sumagaysay del-Rosario, known leader and protester against both projects, also attended the prayer rally.

Meanwhile, Jojo Gastanes, Narra suspended Mayor Gerandy Danao’s spokesperson confirmed in a live broadcast by Palawan Daily Newsroom program today that a number of supporters of Danao also attended the interfaith rally.

“Nagkaroon sila ng interfaith rally kasama ang mga taga No to Coal at One Palawan Movement. So ‘yung ibang mga supporters ni Mayor Danao andoon rin,” Gastanes said.

The plebiscite for the division of Palawan into three provinces was recently put on hold and is awaiting for the schedule although the House of Representatives already approved the proposed measure.

Meanwhile, the documents for the proposed creation of the 15MW Coal Fired Power Plant in Narra’s Barangay Bato-Bato is still under process as it has not been yet reported to secure any permits or clearance documents from the local government unit.
