To uplift the socio-economic well-being of Pag-asa Island residents in the Kalayaan municipality of Palawan, Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates leads the charge in the ongoing construction of the Sheltered Port project.

The provincial government’s vision for this project aims to enhance the lives of the island’s residents, fostering growth and resilience in this remote part of the Philippines.

The Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) reports significant progress, with Phase III construction currently at a 50% completion rate. This phase, which commenced on June 30, 2022, boasts a contract cost of P466 million and is expected to be fully operational by March of the coming year.

This milestone follows the commencement of Phase I construction in 2018, with a budget of P432 million.

Subsequently, Phase II, with a budget of P221 million, was initiated in 2021 and successfully completed this year.

Funding for this ambitious project comes from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), with its execution jointly managed by the PEO, DOTr, Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), and the local government of Kalayaan.

The Sheltered Port project for Pag-asa Island will equip the community with a state-of-the-art port facility that will accommodate passengers, cargo ships, and fishing boats. This endeavor is poised to usher in growth and prosperity in the Fishing and Tourism Industries in the region.
