Today, November 23, fifty (50) Palaweño scholars, supported by the Provincial Government, are heading to Dualtech Training Center in Canluban, Laguna to undergo a two-year course in Electromechanics Technology.
They come from different places like Brooke’s Point, Sofronio Española, Narra, Dumaran, Roxas, and Taytay.
These scholars are aged 18 to 30 and are either Out-of-School Youth (OSY) or not currently enrolled.
Yesterday, November 22, the scholars received a briefing at the Centennial Pavilion of the Capitol with Mrs. Maria Victoria B. Baaco, Program Manager of the SPS Alay sa Kabataan scholarship program, who explained the details of their journey.
According to Baaco, the Provincial Government will cover their tuition/training fees, accommodation, and free meals for six months.
Furthermore, each scholar will receive airfare to Manila, with a potential grant of up to P100,000.00 to cover other expenses.
After six months of study, the scholars will undergo on-the-job training with companies partnered with the training center, where they will receive corresponding allowances.
Accompanied by the staff of the SPS Alay sa Kabataan Program, led by Baaco, the scholars will be formally transported and endorsed to the said training center.
This marks the second batch of scholars taking the course at Dualtech Training Center, following the first group sent on November 15.
The scholarship opportunity for individuals keen on Technical and Vocational Courses at TESDA-accredited institutions is established by Provincial Ordinance No. 3164-A series of 2023.
This ordinance outlines the detailed guidelines for providing educational financial assistance under the SPS Alay sa Kabataan Scholarship Program of the Provincial Government. It also caters to students pursuing technical, vocational, and college education in Palawan, allocating the necessary funding for this purpose.
The scholars express their gratitude to Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates for providing them the opportunity to pursue technical vocational courses through this scholarship program. They also pledge to excel in their studies to graduate and secure meaningful employment.
