Odette leaves P4.1-B in agri and infra devastation in Palawan

Typhoon Odette left damages worth P4.1 billion in agricultural crops and infrastructures based on the report submitted by the Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (DANA) team of the Palawan Provincial Government and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) to the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during the regular session Tuesday, January 11.

The overall report came from consolidated assessments of the 18 Palawan towns affected by typhoon Odette during its onslaught last December 17.

DANA noted that the figure can be broken down into P3,172,068,488.33 in damage to agriculture.
The said amount was mostly based on damaged agricultural land from severely affected towns such as Roxas (P858,066,708.80), San Vicente (P569,132,499.00), Taytay (P148,219,220.00). Meanwhile the remaining municipalities of Narra (P31,908,172.60), Cagayancillo (P67,268,291.70) and Araceli (P67,268,291.70) and the rest has been indicated least damaged in terms of agriculture.

Infrastructure damage for the province is placed at P1,545,333,723.50 for 12 municipalities. According to the data collected by DANA, Roxas has been severely damaged with a total of at least P602,870,946.00 followed by Dumaran with an estimated damages of P54,946,500.00.

DANA shows that a total of 8,216 houses l mostly from Roxas, Taytay, Araceli, Dumaran and San Vicente were totally damaged while 42,601 dwelling places in the coastal areas from Taytay, Roxas and Dumaran were partially damaged.

The report also cited that the affected number of Palawenyo families total 61,498, which is equivalent to 259,427 individuals mostly from Taytay and Roxas.

As of January 8, 2022, DANA also concluded that 16 evacuation centers are still being used to cater 569 individuals or 129 families coming from Araceli, Roxas and Kalayaan towns.

The death toll, according to DANA, is 10. While four are still missing until now.

Furthermore, rescue teams both from the towns and the Capitol managed to rescue 15 individuals during Odette’s peak while 63 were recorded injured.
